Dear KBA Secretariat,
I hope this message finds you well.
I am delighted to have recently joined the Key Biodiversity Areas (KBA) community. It is an honor to become part of a global network committed to identifying and conserving the world’s most important sites for biodiversity.
After exploring the KBA website and its available resources, I noticed that I could not find biodiversity information specifically related to Somaliland. This was surprising, as Somaliland encompasses diverse climatic zones—from coastal ecosystems to mountains, rangelands, and semi-arid landscapes—that support a rich variety of flora and fauna.
Many of these ecosystems and species have received limited scientific documentation, and some are facing increasing pressures from climate change, habitat degradation, overgrazing, invasive species, and other human-induced threats. Without adequate biodiversity information and conservation assessments, some species and habitats may continue to decline before they are fully understood or appropriately protected.
I believe this represents an important opportunity for collaboration. As an Environmental Specialist with experience in environmental assessment, GIS, spatial analysis, and natural resource management, I would be pleased to contribute to efforts aimed at improving biodiversity knowledge, identifying potential Key Biodiversity Areas, and supporting biodiversity data collection and conservation initiatives in Somaliland.
I would greatly appreciate any guidance on how I can become actively involved in these efforts and contribute to strengthening biodiversity information for this underrepresented region.
