KBAs in Alberta Canada

Hello I’m writing a State of the Watershed Report for the Red Deer River in Alberta, Canada and wanted some more background on the criteria used to select three of the KBAs found within the watershed. I think mostly its because they are also IBAs. Are there other candidates?

I’m also interested in some background as to what organizations are behind the KBA program. I haven’t been able to find an “About Us” section on your website. AI mentions that there are 13 organizations behind this initiative, with funders including Canada and the World Bank. More details would be appreciated! I’m trying to draw attention to your program and hopefully encourage others to get involved!

Many thanks,

Jay

Hi Jay,

You can find out more about KBAs on the About KBAs section. There, you’ll find information like what KBAs are, why they matter and more about the Partnership, Programme, and all the groups working with KBAs.

I hope this is useful!

Hi Jay, I work with the KBA Canada program at WCS Canada. With Birds Canada and NatureServe Canada, we’re leading the national initiative to identify KBAs. More information about KBAs in Canada (including nationally significant sites that do not appear on the global WDKBA), and organizations involved in the effort is available at KBACanada.org . By my (very quick) count there are about 4 global and national KBAs in the Red Deer River watershed (at least in the Alberta portion). Feel free to shoot me an email at psoroye@wcs.org, I’d be very happy to provide more information, answer more questions, and share more data/maps/text on the KBA work for your report.
