From February 24 to 27, 2026, more than thirty stakeholders from government agencies, universities, national and international NGOs, and the private sector gathered in Yaoundé to strengthen their capacity to apply the global KBA standard.
This workshop, organized by Forêts et Développement Rural (FODER) with financial and technical support from the KBA Secretariat and Birdlife International, aims to:
Strengthen understanding of the concept of Key Biodiversity Areas;
Train participants on the criteria, thresholds, and processes for identifying KBAs
Develop practical skills through hands-on exercises and case studies;
Prepare national stakeholders to contribute to updating the 38 existing KBAs and identifying new areas;
Lay the groundwork for the creation of the National KBA Coordination Group in Cameroon.
Cameroon, with its exceptional biodiversity, faces significant environmental pressures. Rigorous and harmonized identification of priority sites for conservation is essential to support effective action in the field.
Many thanks to FODER and all the partners committed to biodiversity conservation in the Congo Basin.
Together, let’s contribute to better protection of Cameroon’s natural heritage.
